What’s My Style?
Often as designers we get asked the question by our
clients…How do I know my style? Or what is my style?
It’s an interesting question to initially answer however as
your design professional it is our job to find that out!
As home owners we often purchase a home in an area we love
and sometimes forget that the style of the architecture will often need to drive
the direction of the interiors.
Our first steps in finding out your style is to chat through
colours, textures, profiles and use concept imagery to extract an emotive
reaction. Most clients will have strong connections to colour or the minimal
use of colour and will steer us in the direction of minimalism or maximalism or
somewhere in between!
1. Cammeray 2
Our Cammeray 2 Residence boasts a Contemporary Twist on Industrial Style Interiors. The first hint to recognise this design adopts an Industrial nature is the use of raw materials. Concrete flooring, steel windows and doors, metal highlights in cabinetry and the fabulous use of brass in bathroom tapware, door handles & floor edging. We state that this is a play on Contemporary Industrial as we recognise there are no exposed beams, rough edges or a neutral palette. This home embraces the use of colour and sits proudly with bold uses of navy, mustard, burgundy and greens. The home is highly functional in it’s open floorplan layout and detailed cabinetry choices and uses space effectively. The layered approached of bold colour choices, patterned wallpapers and soft furnishings, contrasting with raw materials allows this home to be not only striking but a much desired entertaining hub.
2. Millers Point
Step into a world of Hollywood Glamour–New York Style. This Residence highlights some of the key elements of this style. Our elegant colour scheme of Black, white and gold is accented with jewel colours in emerald green. The statement lighting used was vintage crystal wall sconces and an oversized chandelier in the bedroom which adds to the art deco influences. Sophisticated, rich and sumptuous fabrics play a large part in the theatrics of the space. The Master bedroom is plush with detailed cushions, lamps and accessories which adds that extra layer of opulence. Whilst this style is bold there is a timeless elegance to the space which forces you to travel back in time and immerse yourself in the golden age of Hollywood.
3. Hunters Hill
Our Hunters Hill Residence epitomizes the “Classic Traditional” style. The foundation of this home is elegantly neutral, featuring shades of white, grey, and soft blue greys. There is nothing more classic than the combination of herringbone flooring, marble detailing, wainscotting, and polished chrome lighting, hardware, and finishes. The cabinetry has a conventional clean double bevelled edge shaker detail combined with lamb’s tongue benchtop profiles.
Ponder down to the laundry area and be hit with gorgeous tessellated tiles – an old English tradition of combining coloured tiles in refined patterns. Whilst this home is classic, contemporary elements are found in the design of the floor plan. The open plan kitchen, living, and dining spaces ensure there are all the modern features of a contemporary home.
As you peruse through the images of this home, the furniture is timeless, the proportions are balanced, and the colour is minimal. This is a true example of “Classic Traditional” for the now.
4. Lilyfield
Our Lilyfield Residence incorporates a Mid-Century Modern style. To say there is a Palm Springs flicker is certainly true. This home leaves behind the formality of consistent architecture and embraces a playful interior. Bold colours, unexpected patterns, and a juxtaposition of eclectic artwork allow this home to proudly stand on its own. It’s not for the faint-hearted; it’s for the creative who loves a reinterpreted interior.
A key element of this home is the integration of the exteriors into the interior. There is a huge emphasis on outdoor entertaining and using desert-like planting. Common elements noted are clean lines and simplicity in the structural elements combined with a bright and cheerful palette.
