Describe the brief and aspirations for the renovation
The heritage multi unit residential project introduced 30 new dewlings to Potts Point – WMK Architects & interiors by SJB.
When W&W were engaged the clients felt that the interior feel a little flat & wanted something more special. One description provided was “To look & feel like a NYC bar”
They also wanted to add more storage & practical storage….plus all furniture & lighting selections.
What was the design solution?
Design for you – which is for now! Explore colour & texture…Remember there are spaces that need fresh & fabulous and others that deserve quiet & peace. We find if clients remove the “resale” conversation the outcome is always flawless as you have considered the spaces for how you live now and ultimately that creates a sense of joy & happiness. Employ a team that you trust & can hear your ideas & execute them beyond your expectations. And lastly always invest in joinery !
Were there any compromises?
A leather sofa was a number one request which we initially were deterred with. However we found a beautiful aubergine leather from Rino Mastrotto which set the space off in the end.
What are you most happy with?
We are really happy with the integration of the cabinetry being so contemporary yet how well it plays on a historic structure. The cabinetry functions so well yet almost acts as artwork!
Also the highlight for clients to trust us on floor & walls in a dark tone is just amazing. We were thrilled when they said yes….as whilst it was bold…it certainly is breathtaking when you walk into the space.
